6 Ways to Continually Motivate Yourself to Better Wellness #MayHealth

You know the hardest part about staying healthy? Convincing yourself you’re worth the effort. Taking steps to become more healthy can be incredibly rewarding, but the journey feels long and rough at times.

Our Bensol team in Guelph, is constantly encouraging each other to eat better and be more active! We inspire each other because staying motivated isn’t easy, we get it. Now that we’re taking an active part in #MayHealth, we thought we could all use a little mid-month motivation to keep our goals moving forward!

Know Your Why

“When you feel like quitting: think about why you started.” – Author Unknown

You want more energy, that’s great! But why? To spend more time with your kids, to work on personal projects more, to give more of your time to the community? At one point you started your journey to better health for a reason. This reason isn’t always clear, and it’s different for everybody. But once you find it, it’s your most powerful motivator.

Set Realistic Goals

“No matter how slow you go, you’re still lapping everyone on the couch.” – Unknown

You don’t have to start with a marathon. Even the small goals like taking the stairs once per day are very achievable. And the best part? Small goals mean you can accomplish them more easily and more frequently which keeps you feeling great and taking more small steps. Smaller goals lead to big life-changing goals, so take those baby steps with pride.

Don’t Aim for Perfection

“Nobody’s perfect so get over the fear of doing everything perfectly. Besides, perfect is boring.” – Jillian Michaels

What matters most is you’re dedicating time and energy to make yourself feel happier and healthier. You’re completely allowed to make mistakes along the way. A mistake isn’t failure, it’s a lesson.

Involve Others

“Teamwork is the secret that make common people achieve uncommon result.” – Ifeanyi Enoch Onuoha

You best ally in the gym, on a run, or on a diet is someone keeping you accountable and encouraging you. Your workplace could have a great pool of people just as eager to make a lifestyle change as you.

Focus on the Future

“I already know what giving up feels like, I want to see what happens when I don’t.” – Neila Rae

We’ve all had fitness plans or diets that didn’t work out so well. However, we don’t need to reflect on our guilt or feel sorry for ourselves too long. Guilt doesn’t motivate. Forward thinking does.

Don’t Be Afraid to Celebrate

“I won’t give up what I enjoy to look perfect. I want to find a happy medium between feeling good and enjoying a beer and some barbeque.” – Miranda Lambert

The little rewards along the way make healthy living worth it. Complete deprivation isn’t the name of the game. Be nice to yourself, you’re making a really great change in your life.

There’s so much to celebrate along the journey to better wellness. But remember, change happens over time, not overnight. Because you’ve started, whether it was during #mayhealth or another time, you at one point decided you were good enough to have a healthier life. Don’t forget that! You’re well on your way to making that change.
